El Pacto de Sangre

How do you seal a friendship? Drink each other’s blood droplets mixed with wine and convince each other that hostilities should end.

On 16 March 1565 (or 25 March, records are confused due to the Gregorian calendar reform in 1584), Miguel Lopez de Legaspi of Spain and Datu Sikatuna of Bool performed the now famous blood compact, probably not far from the modern town of Loay. Also known as Sanduguan in Filipino, this pact of friendship is touted as “first treaty of friendship between different races”.

My friends and I were amazed by the awesome view right before us and I thought if the weather was the same as this when the blood compact was performed.
