Yesterday I dusted my copy of Fyodor Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment. My paperback edition – old, crispy and silent -was published in 1959. In between work, deadlines, and mothering for Uno and Jed, my book plan is to read it alongside with Carol Shield’s The Stone Diaries. Do tough book readers read more than one, two or threee books at a time?
Got a copy of PEOPLE Asia Magazine dated February 2007 last week. One interesting article is about Lakambini Sitoy. Now its time to find her works.
Lakambini Sitoy’s Tips to Aspiring Writers
1. Believe in yourself.
2. You don’t write fiction to become a celebrity. If you crave recognition, stroking and loads of friends, try blogging instead.
3. Experience people, places and things.
4. Read. No. 3 and no. 4 will supply you with a steady stream of the nouns, verbs and modifiers you’ll need to make your work ring true.
